You know how they say you wait hours for a bus, and then three come along at once? Well, apparently it’s the same with Lego movies.
Having been eagerly awaiting new cinematic outings for our favorite brick-based characters since we first walked out of 2014’s The Lego Movie, three follow-ups have now been announced all at once — complete with release dates.
And, boy, are they exciting!
The movies will be released in 2017 and 2018, commencing with perhaps my most-anticipated entry: an as-yet-untitled Lego Batman flick, which arrives February 10, 2017.
Following this is Lego spinoff Ninjago, based on the popular theme, which lands September 22, 2017, despite original plans for it to be released in fall 2016.
Finally, May 18, 2018 is the one many people will be most excited about: The Lego Movie Sequel, which will hit screens May 18, 2018.
“We are very excited about dating our upcoming Lego animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film,” Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros., said in a statement. “These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.”
If the individual movies on the slate can come close to grossing (or even, gasp, surpass) the massive $468 million worldwide that The Lego Movie made, hopefully we’ll be in line for regular Lego movies from here on out!
Which of these movies are you most excited about? Leave your comments below.
